Moving Images
The OSU Archives has more than 6,600 motion picture film reels, videotapes, and DVDs. These include final productions and unedited footage of intercollegiate athletics, lectures, musical performances, and other special events at the University. The moving image collections also document agriculture; forestry, fisheries, and, wildlife; logging and forest products; and 4-H programs in Oregon. Final productions prepared by the Extension Service, Alumni Office, the University's Communications Offices and other units are held by the Archives. A variety of formats are represented, but the majority of the films are 16-mm black-and-white prints; most of the videotapes are VHS-format and 3/4" cassettes. Footage dates from the early 1920s to the present.
Moving images in the Archives holdings are grouped together in collections by office of origin, donor, subject, or producer. Each of these collections has been assigned a number beginning with "FV". Many of the films and videotapes have been assigned individual numbers. For example, FV P205:001 is the first film in the Chemistry Department Motion Picture Films collection (FV P 205). Many other collections in the Archives also include moving images. Typically those items are not assigned individual numbers.
