In celebration of Black History Month, Hannah Mahoney, OSU Special Collections and Archives Research Center Student Worker, has curated the display “Creating an Archival Collection: St. Philip the Deacon Episcopal Parish Records.” The display showcases the history of the parish in addition to the collaborative effort to preserve that history through the creation of an archival collection of the church’s records.

The OSU Libraries’ Oregon Multicultural Archives (OMA) mission is to assist in preserving the histories and sharing the stories that document Oregon's African American, Asian American, Latino/a, and Native American communities.
In 2011 Chris Petersen set about learning how to do oral history work. He traveled to the middle of Ohio for a crash course in interview techniques, field equipment, transcription software and much more. What followed was a burst of recording that transported Chris to exotic locations, including Hawaii and the Valley Library third floor conference room. This light-hearted and informative talk will recount the highlights of Chris’ journeys and some of what he learned along the way. This work was generously funded by the Robert Lundeen Library Faculty Development Award.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Anne-Marie Deitering to the position of department head for Teaching and Engagement Department within OSU Libraries and Press. Professor Deitering begins her new role on February 1, 2013. She has played an integral part in the ongoing development of the Libraries' instruction program since her initial appointment to OSU. She was named the Franklin McEdward Professor for Undergraduate Learning Initiatives in September 2008. She has an MA in American History from Syracuse University and an MLS from Emporia State University. In 2011, the Oregon Library Association named her the Oregon Librarian of the Year.
Please join me in congratulating Anne-Marie as she assumes this new role with us. I also would like to thank the search committee for their work on this recruitment: Shan Sutton (chair), Tiah Edmunson-Morton, and Uta Hussong-Christian.
Best, Faye
