This policy is designed to ensure there is a variety of study space in the library with different levels of noise. Signage is prominently displayed at the entrance(s) to these areas. Library faculty and staff are responsible for enforcing this policy.

Quiet Spaces

The 5th and 6th floors have designated quiet spaces.

The following are enforced in quiet areas.

  • No cell phone conversation use
  • Use headphones/earbuds when listening to music or watching videos. Adjust the volume so that it does not impact those around you.
  • Limited, quiet talking
  • Individual study in designated areas

The following is allowed in conversational spaces:

  • Group study
  • Approved consultations
  • Graduate School-hosted events in the Graduate Student Commons during specified times.

Silent Floor

The 1st floor is designated as a silent floor.

The following are enforced in silent areas:

  • No cell phone conversation use
  • No talking
  • Individual study
