OSU Librarian Hannah Gascho Rempel Receives Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award to Czech Republic as a visiting professor

CORVALLIS, Ore. — The U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board have announced that Professor Hannah Gascho Rempel of Oregon State University has received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award to the Czech Republic in librarianship. Rempel will lecture at Charles University as part of a project to develop innovative approaches for preparing information educators in the Czech Republic, and she’ll be giving departmental seminars and assisting in a research study on information-seeking behaviors regarding educational technology.

Professor Rempel began at Charles University in September and will be there until June 2020. At OSU Libraries, she is a Science Librarian and the Graduate Student Services Coordinator in the Teaching and Engagement Department. Rempel is the third Fulbright scholar in recent years among the faculty of OSU Libraries.

“I am honored,” said Rempel, “to have been selected to join this group of highly engaged scholars and teachers. The Fulbright program has a rich history, and I am grateful for the opportunity to take part in this educational exchange and learn from my Czech colleagues.”

Rempel is one of more than 800 U.S. citizens who will teach, conduct research, or provide expertise abroad for the 2019-20 academic year through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected based on academic and professional achievement, record of service and demonstrated leadership in their fields. The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program and designed to build connections between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.

Charles University, where Rempel is teaching, is located in Prague, was founded in 1348, and is the oldest and largest university in the Czech Republic.
