Update on Sept. 8 to the info further below:

The Valley Library was scheduled to reopen for limited hours on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Unfortunately, problems with the HVAC system mean that we will not be able to open as scheduled. We're disappointed that this delay is necessary, but the health and safety of our community is our top priority.

The Valley Library will be closed on Sept. 8 and 9 as we wait for the replacement of a key component to bring the system back up to capacity. For the most current information about our reopening plans, check the Library Hours page or Ask a Librarian

Greetings from OSU Libraries and Press,

I’d like to share our plans for reopening the Valley Library starting with summer intersession through the 2020 fall term. We will continue to do our utmost to connect faculty, students and staff with the resources that they need. However, library spaces and their access will be new and different.

The safety of our user and employee communities remains our top priority. Our reopening teams have been working hard to ensure that our physical spaces are welcoming while their layout and design seek to minimize the risk and spread of COVID-19 virus. As we reopen, we appreciate users joining our on-site library employees in their commitment to adhering to Oregon State’s face covering and physical distancing policies to keep all of us safer.

Since spring term, we have maintained and expanded our digital collections and services to support remote work and research. The OSU community can expect to receive this virtual support throughout the fall term while on-site teaching activities are limited. Most Valley Library partners who also provide important services to the OSU community will be opting to continue offering remote support, and these include the following: the Graduate Student Commons, the Undergraduate Research and Writing Studio, and the Mole Hole (chemistry tutoring). Our COVID-19 site will be updated regularly to provide the most current information.

HOURS OF OPERATION

Sept. 8-22: Summer Intersession

The main floor of the Valley Library building will be open:

  • Sept. 8-11: 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday-Friday   Problems with the HVAC system mean that we will not be able to open as scheduled on 9/8.  We will continue to monitor the stability and reliability of the HVAC system to determine if we can reopen later in the week.
  • Sept. 14-22: 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday

Sept. 23-Nov. 25: Fall Term

The main floor of the Valley Library building will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday; hours of operation may be extended after the first three to four weeks of the term.

Nov. 26-Jan. 3, 2021: Thanksgiving Break through Winter Break

The Valley Library will be closed.

ACCESS TO LIBRARY SPACES/FLOORS

We will adopt a phased approach to opening spaces and floors to Valley Library users; our spaces will be available for access by reservation only. More details about making reservations are forthcoming. When the building reopens in September, only the main or second floor will be accessible. Library personnel will assess the usage of space to determine when additional floors (levels 3-6) can safely be reopened. The library is closed to members of the public not engaged in OSU business, as required by Oregon Executive Order 20-28. We appreciate your assistance in helping us to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and look forward to fully reopening the building to the public when public health guidelines permit.

 SERVICE HIGHLIGHTS
