The Oregon State University Special Collections & Archives Research Center is the proud home of the Shannon Day Rettig Book Arts Collection, a generous gift of 75-volumes. While this collection of intricately handmade books is available for viewing by appointment, on October 18th, 2023, SCARC hosted a very special open house.
This open house had over 60 attendees from the OSU community and beyond, creating a beautiful atmosphere of art admirers, who were delighted to hear heartfelt reflections on the acquisition and appreciation of the collection by donor Ed Rettig himself.
This collection has already encouraged artistry at OSU. Karen Holmberg's ENG 217 "Reading for Writers" class visited SCARC to view the collection and were subsequently assigned writing prompts inviting them to revisit their respective books in the SCARC Reading Room.
This event was part of the October Oregon Archives Month Celebrations. Learn more about these celebrations at the Speaking of History blog.
