The Institute for Natural Resources and Oregon State University Libraries & Press, in partnership with a number of Oregon state agencies and universities, recently launched several new landing pages and map viewers on Forest Collaboratives, Sage-Grouse, and Hazards as part of the Oregon Explorer Natural Resources Digital Library. TAKE NOTE

As the season of entertaining and gift giving kicks into high gear, the following tips and ideas are offered to support more sustainable celebrations.

• For library unit holiday celebrations, don’t forget to reserve and use the OSULP Party Pack to reduce (or eliminate!) landfill-bound waste.
• When entertaining at home, try to use some or all of these strategies to reduce (or eliminate!) landfill-bound waste:
  • Use reusables instead of disposables whenever possible
  • If you must use plastic, wash and reuse instead of throwing out (they are sturdier than you think!)
  • If you must use paper napkins, compost in your Yard Debris cart
  • Place well-labeled recycling and composting bins for guests
  • Create your own platters instead of overpackaged pre-cut items
  • If you buy pre-cut, save the sturdy packaging for reuse next time

 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The library is conducting a series of training on the new eProcurement system, BennyBuy.  Shoppers have training on the 11^th and 12^th of December, and Requestors will be meeting with UABC on the 22^nd for their training.  The plan is for the library to go live with the system sometime in early January.

 

The Library Faculty Association Seminar Series is taking place on December 8^th from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Willamette Classrooms.  Come on by for some light refreshments, or tune in via Webex.

 

Social Justice Education Initiative for Fall term! The SJEI is a professional development program from Academic Affairs for all OSU faculty, staff, and graduate students aimed at building knowledge about equity and inclusion, and developing intercultural competencies. In addition to the platform curriculum, comprised of Session One and Session Two, there are new shorter workshops that explore specific topics with more depth. Now is a great time to build your equity and inclusion skills! Custom and unit-level delivery is possible in addition to these general workshops.
