Visitors, Graduates, and Women
SCARC was busy this week, hosting two guest speakers. Thursday afternoon, Dr. Edna Suarez-Diaz presented her resident scholar lecture to an audience of about 20 people. She is the final FY 2018 scholar -- this concluded the program's 10th year. Friday evening, SCARC hosted the reception and dinner for OSU's commencement speaker, alumnus Harley Jessup '76. He is one of the film industry's current animation pioneers.
OSULP had a visitor from China on Monday morning! Dr. Lihai Wang, Dean of the Library and Chief Professor of Forest Engineering at Northeast Forestry University in China, came to Valley Library on Monday morning. Dean Wang wanted to learn about library services and library management at OSULP. In his two days at OSU, he also visited the Wood Science and Technology Department and Forest Engineering and Resource Management Department in College of Forestry.
Chris Petersen is leading an OSULP Community Interview Project. We are attempting to use oral history to build community and capture institutional knowledge about our organization. All faculty and staff working in OSULP are invited to participate as interviewees. We will also be reaching out to recent retirees as well as a selection of our current student workers. If you’re interested, please fill out this brief survey to sign up for the interviews. The interviews will require about one hour of your time and will be conducted in such a way as to minimize the anxiety that can sometimes be a part of the oral history setting.
SCARC's new exhibit -- "Women's Words, Women's Work" is up and available for viewing during SCARC's open hours. Kudos to Tiah the exhibit crew. Rachel is working on a companion LibGuide that will include links to Oregon Digital of the exhibit images and to relevant collection guides. Chris has been working diligently on the online version of the exhibit -- take sneak preview at http://scarc.library.oregonstate.edu/omeka/exhibits/show/womenswords.
