OSU Libraries and Press functions because of an amazing team of faculty that lead our drive for innovation, service and support. They are award-winning and nationally-recognized instructors. These faculty are supported through generous gifts that help to facilitate the work that they do.

National Recognition

Hannah Gascho Rempel was recognized by the Association of College Research Libraries as an outstanding librarian who “demonstrates a passion for teaching, innovation and student learning.” Natalia Fernández was honored as one of 10 recipients of the “I Love My Librarian” award given annually by the American Library Association for her outstanding contributions to the university and the community.

Endowed Positions

Franklin A. McEdward was an OSU electrical engineering graduate who gave $2.6 million to the university. Because of his love of books and learning, he left this gift to the library where it is used to support the endowed position of the McEdward Professorship for Undergraduate Learning Initiatives, held by Anne-Marie Deitering. Nationally recognized as a leader in teaching and learning in libraries, Professor Deitering is the Associate University Librarian for Learning Services at OSU Libraries and Press.

The Donald and Delpha Campbell University Librarian endowment, totaling $3.5 million, was awarded by the Campbell family to Dr. Mel George, the University Librarian in the 1980s and ‘90s. This endowment continues to provide funds for the University Librarian position, and Faye A. Chadwell is the newest Donald and Delpha Campbell University Librarian.

The Gray Family Chair for Innovative Library Services supports the efforts of OSU Libraries to expand innovative means of accessing and delivering information to students, faculty, staff and other constituents of the university. As of 2020, funds are being used to support consulting work being done for OSU Libraries by DeEtta Jones and Associates to guide the Libraries’ exploration of ways to build and maintain itself as an organization that supports innovation and creativity, respects work-life balance, and practices reflection and inclusiveness. The Gray Family Chair was first awarded in 2003 to Jeremy Frumkin, followed by Terry Reese in 2008 and Dr. Korey Jackson in 2013. The Gray Family Chair for Innovative Library Services was created by the late Portland developer and philanthropist John D. Gray, a 1940 Oregon State alumnus, among his other gifts to OSU.
