LSTA grant news, other awards, and surplus updates.
Congratulations to Oregon State University Libraries and its partner Willamette University Libraries. Our collaboration on a competitive LSTA grant proposal: “Preserving the Legacy of an Oregon Activist and Artist: Making Accessible the Chuck Williams Collections” was selected to be funded as part of this year’s award process. A special shout out goes to Natalia Fernandez and Larry Landis in our Special Collections and Archives Research Center for their effort on this grant.
Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Oregon Experience documentary on OSU has been nominated for a regional Emmy award. The episode, some of which was filmed in SCARC, included considerable SCARC content and featured interviews with SCARC personnel. The awards will be announced on June 8 in Seattle.
The Duo team will have walk-up events for employees to sign up for Duo and to get tokens if needed. The event will be today, Tuesday, from 1-4 p.m.
Marine Science Day is done! We had great response to our Citizen Science Display. Kudos to Lily for bringing in her inexpensive digital microscope and creating the display. She also created a great handout on the morning of MSD. I think we had many families who went home and purchased the $30 microscope for home use.
Spring is here and everyone is into their spring cleaning in their office. There’s so much spring cleaning going on that surplus and recycling services is having a hard time keeping up with the inflow of requests! In addition to that, they’re preparing for the resident hall move-out donation drive which starts May 28th. So, expect surplus pick-up or move requests to be halted or delayed between May 27th and June 19th.
Beyond Earth Day starts April 19th (this Friday) and runs until the 26th. It’s a week-long celebration of people and planet, with programmed focused on earth ecosystems, health and wellness, viable economies, and social progress. Check out the calendar and details of events online.
