Congratulations to Brooke and her colleagues, who were just awarded a significant IMLS grant for their project: Getting to know their data doubles: An inquiry into student perceptions of privacy issues associated with academic library participation in learning analytics.
This project is focused on a woefully understudied part of learning analytics projects, and should help us as a profession cut through the myths and assumptions surrounding privacy and personal data.
New York University (NYU) and the Library Freedom Project (LFP) just announced the 2018 Library Freedom Institute cohort and our very own Kelly McElroy was selected from among 70 applicants to join the first cohort with 14 diverse participants. The LFI is a collaborative program between NYU and LFP funded by the the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The goal is to turn librarians into Privacy Advocates. Please join me in congratulating Kelly for being selected to this. I ook forward to her sharing the knowledge and skiills she gains after completing her training. Way to go, Kelly.

Wondering where many of the SCARC people are? Many of them will be attending the Northwest Archivists annual conference from the 25-27th of April. It’s being hosted at Warm Springs, which is the first time that the NWA conference has been hosted by a tribal community.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
CIAzumano, OSU’s contracted travel agency, will be giving a presentation on travel services and their online booking tool (nuTravel) on Tuesday, April 24th at 9:30-11:00am. The training will be in Cascades Hall, room 118, and you can sign up at the Professional Development website.
The Critical Questions Lecture Series has a new talk coming up - Lynching: A Rhetoric of Civic Belonging with Dr. Ersula Ore. Join Dr. Ore on Wednesday, May 2nd at 4pm in MU room 206. Her talk will explore lynching as a racialized practice of civic engagement that has, from the 1880s onward, operated as an argument against the inclusion of blacks within the nation.
PERSONNEL NEWS
Science Librarian – The PD has been redrafted and the search committee reconstituted. It now includes: Uta Hussong-Christian (chair), Hannah Rempel, Hui Zhang, and Claudio Fuentes (search advocate).
Metadata Librarian – The committee has finished its phone interviews and are working on scheduling on-site interviews. Those should occur the first and second week of May.

GUESS THAT PET
Can you guess the animal’s person?
This is Maybe. Maybe had a rough and tumble childhood, and eventually ended up with her special people when she showed up crying on their backstep after a thunderstorm. They didn’t know if they would keep Maybe, hence the name. Her hobbies include bothering the other kitty, Sam, grooming her special people (but not herself, no time for that), and napping on the fuzzy bathmat.
Answers can be shared with colleagues and guessed among the office. Next week’s newsletter will have the owner’s name. Last week’s pup-person was Korey Jackson.
AUL CORNER
Last week I keynoted the Delaware Valley ACRL Chapter Spring Conference. The conference was held on beautiful Muhlenberg Campus in Allentown, PA. The theme of the conference was all about partnerships. I choice to talk about what constitutes effective partnerships and share some of the interesting work that we all have done at OSULP to benefit the OSU community. Everyone was very inspired by the work that we do here at our library and I spent a lot of time answering questions. Thank you to each one of you for the work you do and making it so easy for me to “brag” about the projects you are engage in to make OSULP great! -- Cheryl
