Friday morning Larry participated in the media preview of the OSU150 exhibit at the Oregon Historical Society and that evening Larry and student assistant Mike Dicianna participated in the exhibit's opening reception, which was well attended. The event was covered by KGW news and the Gazette Times.
Check out the new exhibit “Community, Collaboration, Craft: A Glimpse of Art at OSU” at the OSU Special Collections and Archives Special Center Gallery on the 5th floor of the Valley Library. Discover what puppet noses, danceramics, and wood marquetry have in common in this celebration of artistic inspiration on campus. On display until May 31st.
Guin continues to have troubles as part of their construction efforts. They decided to call in an outside company to cut the concrete which delayed the project. Then they set off the fire alarm because the belt was slipping on their equipment. A conduit containing unknown wires was cut because it wasn’t shown on any of our electrical plans. HMSC Facilities will come in tomorrow to drill the holes for the rebar they need to support the new concrete. The electrician is figuring out what wires got cut – one of them went to the heating and cooling unit for the seminar room. The others appear to be phone lines but no one is sure and the computer/phone guy is out.
Looking for a digital copy of your W2? Those forms aren’t usually available until mid-February. You should have received a printed copy of the mail already, but if you haven’t then you may have to contact Business Affairs at 7-3031.
Are you a new faculty or staff members at OSU? If so, Please join the Office of Institutional Diversity in a professional networking event in the Portland Area. The event is called Say Hey and will be held at Portland State University on February 20, 2018 from 5:30-8:00pm in the Karl Miller Center Atrium. The Say Hey event is an opportunity for new professionals who have recently relocated to Oregon and Southwest Washington to connect and deepen their engagement with our region’s multicultural community. Through this program, faculty and staff at Oregon State University will have an opportunity to make connections with other professionals throughout the state, explore possible synergies, and discover community linkages that advance professional and personal goals. The program is free and the Office of Institutional Diversity will provide group transportation.

Circulation LT2 – Congratulations to Matthew Schuck! He’ll be joining the circulation team in early March as the coordinator for fines, appeals, and claims of returns.
Cascades Librarian – Congratulations to Sarah Fay Philips, who accepted the position as the new Cascades Librarian. She’ll be starting in August of 2018.

Can you guess the animal’s person?
This is Maxwell.
Maxwell is a 5 year old Chihuahua. He can play fetch with his ball for days, which happens to be his favorite activity of all time. He’ll howl like he is a mini wolf for a treat, and likes to collect socks to stockpile them in his hidden treasure trove (under beds). When it’s laundry time, he will defend his secret stash and thwart any effort of gathering them. If anyone says the phrase “Ding, Dong!” (as in, a doorbell going off), he’ll go to the door and bark as if someone is there.
Answers can be shared with colleagues and guessed among the office. Next week’s newsletter will have the owner’s name. Last week’s pet was David Manela’s dog, Lilly.
