Conference presentations, new SCARC guides, and personnel updates.
Rachel and Beth enjoyed ReThinkIt in Austin and saw many cool spaces in libraries, too.
They also had a chance to present on library spaces during the conference.
SCARC has put together an updated guide to the Homer Maris Collection (Maris was an alumnus and composed OSU’s alma mater). Check out their guide on the SCARC page.

Take a look at the university’s art exhibit, with artwork from some of your fellow co-workers! The exhibit will last until January 28th, and there will be a reception this Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the LaSells Stewart Center.
The Party Pack turned 1 year old in December 2017! Since its “birth”, it has been reserved and used at least 12 times. Whoot for sustainability in action! If we assume that each time it was reserved, half of the plates were used, the Party Pack has helped the library divert at least 360 disposable plates (plus forks/spoons/knives) from entering the landfill over the past year.
The Party Pack is only useful if its contents remain available. If you have a stray plate or utensil from the Party Pack (yes, a number of pieces have gone missing!) please return it to Uta Hussong-Christian (4th floor mailbox is fine).
If you are planning a library or department event and want to make it more sustainable, please consider reserving and using the Party Pack for your event. Let’s keep up the good work. The OSU Business Affairs Travel Webpage has been updated, and there are some new travel reimbursement rates out there. The new mileage rate is .545 cents a mile, and the lodging per diem rate has been raised.

We have a selection of technology for you to check out including webcams, a variety of adapters, a headset, mini-projectors and much more. We also have access to Lynda.com where you can find a plethora of training videos. Emily Drew will join OSU to host a workshop titled: Whitetopia to Northwest Nice: Understanding the Effects of Oregon’s Racial History. In this workshop, participants will examine how Oregon’s history has shaped a specific set of challenges for Oregon’s institutions and communities today. This exciting workshop is scheduled for Friday January 19th, 2018 from 9:00am – 12:00pm and will take place at the Benton County Sunset Building, 4077 SW Research Way, Corvallis, OR 97333. Circulation LT2 – The search is closed, and currently has 26 applicants. The committee is working on whittling that number down.

This is Tucker. Tucker is a good doggo. He is an English Pointer.
Tucker loves to eat tissues, sings when he is being hugged, and will bowl his ball into the kitchen in order to strike some play-time.
Answers can be shared with colleagues and guessed among the office. Next week’s newsletter will have the owner’s name. Last week’s pet was Josh Gum’s super-doggo-duo, Olive and Fawzy.
AUL CORNER
Sunday was the Golden Globes, the official kickoff for movie awards season. Every year AMD has a goal to see 52 movies in the theater. Every year she comes up short. This year was no exception, but the total was pretty good - 42!
So we thought that we'd take this week to mention a few movies that we saw and liked this year:
AMD
So the first 10 movies we see in a year ar usually technically from the previous year (because we live in Corvallis, not LA) and I am not sure I can cast my brain back that far. So I am going to limit it to this year's movies.
Favorite: The two that jump to mind immediately are Columbus (which I saw in the same theater as Mary Braun) and Lucky. Both of these movies were stories beautifully told, and beautifully visualized, and I felt happier leaving the theater than I did coming in.
Caveat: I haven't seen all of the 2017 movies yet (because I live in Corvallis) so if I didn't say your favorite I may not have seen it.
Special comic book movie subcategory: Thor was a lot of fun, but Wonder Woman wins this one hands down.

Ok it is confession time, I don’t see a lot of movies over the year. When I do see a movie, it is usually from redbox and lags behind the release date. I can’t say I really have a favorite movie this year either. Here are a few I saw with my personal critique.
Wonder Woman (loved)
Guardians of the Galaxy II (entertaining)
Pirates of the Caribbean “Dead Men Tell No Tales” (just ok)
Valerian (disappointed)
John Wick II (horrible)
So now you know why I have kept my movie habits secret over the years.
