There are some new features in Primo!
Resource Recommender – this tool matches search strings with pre-defined internal and external resources. For more info and to contribute to the bank of search terms, please click here.
Lockable filters – facet items can now be “locked” to persist between different search queries in the same session. In order to lock a filter, first apply a filter item to the query. Then, mouse over the item in the Active Filters group. A lock will appear on the left of the badge – clicking this will lock that filter so that a user may enter and execute a new search query. To unlock a filter, click the lock again.
Multiple facet selection – Yay! Users can not toggle multiple facets across every facet group and apply them at once using the “Apply Filters” button that appears at the bottom of the facet pane.
Email captcha – this may be less a new feature and more a hindrance come back to haunt us. By default, this is enabled across the Alliance and, following a significant breach of security last summer, Ex Libris uses strong language whenever this technology comes up in discussion. Please let me know if this feature causes a significant barrier for your students or users.
New sorts in My Favorites - you may now sort your Favorites list by Date Added, Title, and Author.
Search expansion with controlled vocabulary – this new service will add variations of popular search terms with similar terms of the same meaning but maybe more technical connotations. For example, searching for “heart attack” will also include “mycordial infarcation” – with a helpful badge saying it’s been included.
Social Justice Education Initiative for Fall Term: The SJEI is a professional development program for all OSU faculty, staff, and graduate students aimed at building knowledge about equity and inclusion, and developing intercultural competencies. In addition to the platform curriculum, comprised of Session One and Session Two, there are new shorter workshops that explore specific topics with more depth. SJEI is also available to hold in-house workshops for individual units, including customized training to meet your unit’s needs. Now is a great time to build your equity and inclusion skills! Space is limited, register today! http://oregonstate.edu/training/course_list.php?cat_id=46 For more information:jane.waite@oregonstate.edu, 541-737-0866.

Can you guess the animal’s person?
This pupper is named Copper. He’s too smart for his own good, loves water, and is full of puppy power and energy.
Answers can be shared with colleagues and guessed among the office. Next week’s newsletter will have the owner’s name. Last week’s pet was Brooke’s cat Shams.
