All attention in Texas is currently focused on disaster response to assist individuals and families – with evacuation, shelter, food, and medical needs. Focus will shift over the next weeks and months to longer-term recovery efforts for homes, public services, and businesses. Among those organizations that will be in need are archives and libraries. One way to support those long-term efforts is through the Society of American Archivists National Disaster Recovery Fund for Archives (NDRFA).

Have a new graphic design project? If the answer is yes, and it's a project that you want done really soon, please send those requests for graphic design work during the period of September 1-13 to Graphic Design Intern Phoenix Thomas at millhoup@oregonstate.edu and copy Daniel Moret and Don Frier on the email. At other times, those requests can be emailed to Daniel Moret. Please use the Graphic Design Request form located in CN-Share's Communications and Marketing folder -- or you can just ask Dan or Phoenix for the form to use.
Kudos! Over the past few weeks –and over 90 hours of labor! - Rachel has been leading a crew to move tables from the old CLC, move in furniture, and take apart 7 carrels (each takes 2-3 hours to break down and reassemble) So major kudos to our student employees Lorraine, Jess and Joel along with info specialist Kaitlyn – without their hours of labor we would not be where we are today. BennyBuy, Oregon State University’s new eProcurement system will begin implementation September 5th, thanks to outstanding contributions from a number of individuals throughout the university and to the pilot groups. UABC and Cascades will be implemented on Monday, September 18th. Training for shoppers in this new system can be found at the eProcurement training website.
Public Comment Meeting: The community is invited to participate at the Public Comment Meeting for the draft OSU Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan. The plan will help OSU identify ways to reduce the potential loss of life and property by studying the impact of natural hazards and identifying ways to lessen the impact of disasters caused by earthquakes, floods and other hazards. Draft chapters of the plan can be reviewed at http://emergency.oregonstate.edu/nhmp. Join us on Thursday, Sept. 7, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the LaSells Stewart Conference Center, Ag Science Room
Saturday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m., Oregon State will host its second home football game of the season. Game day parking starts at 7 a.m. in the Orange lots. Any vehicles will be towed from those lots starting at 5 a.m. Any staff or student wishing to park on campus and not attending the game on that Saturday may do so and park free at any of the pay lots. Please notify the attendant that you are there in a working capacity for the University and they will let you in. There will be plenty of signage around the lots, so please pay attention to them. If you have any questions or concerns please direct them to Kevin.Blank@oregonstate.edu or 541-737-5977.

Rachel has been gathering many items from storage and various other locations around the building for surplus in the McEdwards Corridor. If you have things to go move to the corridor TODAY and let Rachel know – pick up we just found out is Tuesday!
A new resource recommender is coming to Primo soon and Dan needs your help in populating the search strings and resources they should display! Read here for more info. We can set up badges to call out services, people, resources, and websites based on a user’s query in Primo. Do you have a libguide that you’d like to appear whenever a user queries a certain word or phrase? Or would you like people to see your contact information when they search for your topic of expertise? Or do you have a custom resource that you’d like to see included in Primo that couldn’t be harvested before?
Dan asks that you check out this feature and consider what queries are made in Primo and start adding those resources to the spreadsheets on the project page. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Disaster preparedness and how can we support Houston?
We all hope that we will never be in the situation where we have a disaster on the same scale as Hurricane Harvey and the impacts on the people and infrastructure of Houston. This catastrophic event and the wildfires in our State remind us all that disaster can strike and we should be prepared. OSULP Valley and Newport locations are well prepared in the event of an emergency. You can find updated safety procedures on the following web page https://wiki.library.oregonstate.edu/confluence/display/Safety/Safety+-+Valley+Library and disaster recovery plans for Valley and Guin. Our procedures and policies are reviewed and updated every year by members of the Safety Committee and others across the library. Take some time to review these documents, you never know when we’ll need them and we all have a role to play in safety and disaster recovery of OSULP.
What can we do as a community to support the people and libraries in Houston that were impacted by flooding? According to a recent online Library Journal article, http://lj.libraryjournal.com/2017/08/public-services/texas-libraries-hit-hard-by-hurricane-harvey/#_ the best way to help Houston is to send donations to the Texas Library Association (TLA) and other designated disaster relief funds. TLA lists a number of ways to help on their Disaster Relief Resource page http://www.txla.org/groups/DRC-resources.
