THE LINUS PAULING LEGACY CONTINUES. . .
OSU Libraries and Press grants the Linus Pauling Legacy Award
every other year to an individual who continues the legacy of Linus
Pauling. Dr. Zia Mian, a physicist with Princeton University’s Program
on Science and Global Security, will receive the 2014 Linus Pauling
Legacy Award.
The award acknowledges Mian’s accomplishments as a scientist
and as a peace activist in contributing to the global effort for nuclear
disarmament and for a more peaceful world.
Dr. Mian’s career parallels Pauling’s in the dual nature of Mian’s
work. The connections between the two men are particularly
important as December 2013 marked the 50th anniversary of Linus
Pauling’s receipt of the Nobel Peace Prize for campaigning to end
nuclear weapons testing. Pauling remains the only person to have
received two unshared Nobel prizes.
