Stefanie Buck received an award from the Division of Extended Campus at their annual Faculty Forum Luncheon last Wednesday. This award is an Extended Campus Appreciation Award for her work supporting faculty teaching Ecampus courses, on the affordable learning initiative with Open Oregon State, and as an Ecampus Research Unit Fellow.
Associate Professor Michael Boock has received a Fulbright Core Award (Teaching and Research to commence in fall 2018). As part of his Fulbright, Michael will be teaching an undergraduate course and lecture on digital libraries, journal publishing, and related areas at the State University of Library Studies and Information Technologies in Sofia, Bulgaria. He and a colleague in Sofia will be interviewing key government policy-makers and librarians at Bulgarian universities to explore their plans to meet the 2020 European Union goal of open access for state-sponsored research articles. For their research project, they also will seek to identify key obstacles to achieving the EU open goal while identifying resources that need to be in place for the goal to be met.

Dionisia Morales, author of Homing Instincts, was featured on the front page of the Corvallis Gazette Times and gave a reading in the Valley Library as part of the Literary Northwest Reading Series.
Curious about what SCARC is up to? They have a variety of blogs and interviews available to fill you in on their latest projects. Interested in what their lead student archivist, Anna Dvorak is up to? Or perhaps you would like to hear an interview with Karl McCreary on the SCARC exhibit “Community – Collaboration – Craft: A Glimpse of Art at OSU”. Or maybe you’re interested in some information about the award-winning OSU/OHS digitization project, with news from Valeria Davila Gronoros, Brian Davis, or Erin Clark. Brian Davis also has a couple of interviews on his digital preservation projects. There’s also an interview up with Rachel Lilley and Trevor Sandgathe on the big 5th floor collection shift. OSU will once again work both on- and off-campus with the Corvallis community to collect reusable goods from students during the Great Move Out. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Detours and Distancing within Affinity Groups: What White People Do is Thursday, May 24th from 9:00 to 11:30am in 124 Cascade Hall. This experiential learning workshop invites participants to do small group work that identifies common detours and distancing that White people do to explain good intentions. The goal of our work today will be to recognize these patterns and move toward corrective justice practices in the future. Pre-requisite: Must have completed Social Justice Education Initiative - Session 1 & 2 before attending this workshop. Register online now.

GUESS THAT PET
Can you guess the animal’s person?
This is Fivel. Fivel is deaf, and has been since he was a very wee kitten. This does not stop him from bossing around his brother, or the dogs, or anything else in his path. He is constantly surprised by how sneaky the people in the house are, as they seem to sneak up on him without making a sound. Fivel enjoys sitting on things you need to get to, and enjoys a good nap in a box. Any box will do.
Answers can be shared with colleagues and guessed among the office. Next week’s newsletter will have the owner’s name. Last week’s ferocious feline, Furiosa, lives with Kelly McElroy.
AUL CORNER
Spring term is a very busy time for OSULP and the University as our student and researcher population is winding up to finish the term. The days are full and there is always last minute business to attend to. Sometimes we get so caught up in the feelings of urgency and immediacy to meet the demands of our users that we forget to take time out to reflect on what we as a library have accomplished throughout the year. Our library awards ceremony is a time that we can get together and reflect on the value that we OSULP has brought to the students and faculty of OSU and the wonderful, creative work that our co-workers have engaged in to help us be successful. I hope that you’ll all join us at the award ceremony on Thursday, May 10, at 11:00 am in the Rotunda so we can celebrate our outstanding co-workers.
Don’t just wait until awards ceremonies to acknowledge the great work that we all do. Take a bit of time out of your busy day to reflect on what you and your co-workers have accomplished. I hope that after a bit of reflection, you feel as proud as I do of all that we do and the people we work with. OSULP is a powerful place to work not just because of what we do, but the people that provide those services and resources to the students, staff, faculty, and community of OSU.
